How long can a duty day be?

When trips are built for the monthly bid, an unaugmented duty period must be at least 30 minutes shorter than the FAR 117 limit and no longer than 13 hours, unless the Scheduling Committee waives it. Outside the bid, and in actual operations, the limit is FAR 117 itself. § 5-E-1-a § 5-F-1-a FAR 117’s split-duty rule is never used. § 5-E-1-a

Augmented duty periods have their own limits in the contract; in operations a single-augmented duty may run up to two hours past its scheduled limit. § 5-F-1-b

What are report and release times?

Report is 45 minutes before a domestic (Basic) flight, 60 minutes for the first duty period of a trip, normally 90 minutes for a Global flight (60 in the cases the contract lists), and 30 minutes when the duty starts with a deadhead. § 5-E-2-a-(1) § 5-E-2-a-(2) § 5-E-2-a-(2)-(a) § 5-E-2-a-(2)-(b) § 5-E-2-a-(3) Release is 15 minutes after a Basic flight (30 if you clear customs) and 30 minutes after a Global flight. § 5-E-2-b-(1) § 5-E-2-b-(2)

How much rest do you get?

At least 12:45 off after a trip or field standby, and 24 hours after a Global trip. § 5-E-3-e § 5-E-3-f In the monthly bid a lineholder can ask for more: anything from 12:45 to 14:00 after each trip. § 5-E-3-e-(2)

Some situations need more. Rest is 30 minutes more than the FAR when the layover hotel is over 15 minutes from the airport, and 18 hours after a Basic duty period with a flight segment over eight hours. § 5-E-3-a § 5-E-3-c After an unaugmented duty scheduled over 11 hours, rest is normally 11 hours. § 5-E-3-b

How many days off do you get?

A lineholder available for the whole bid period gets at least 12 days off, and, when the line is built in the monthly bid, at least one day off at base in every seven days unless they opt out. § 5-E-4-a § 5-E-4-c A reserve gets 13 days off in a 30-day bid period and 14 in a 31-day one, one fewer in June, July, August and December. § 5-E-5-a

Is there a monthly hours limit?

Yes. If an assignment pushes a lineholder’s flying plus nonflying hours past 90 in a bid period, the schedule must be repaired before the next trip; in the actual operation the trigger is 92 hours, though after a lineholder departs on the next-to-last trip of the bid period the company may stop applying it. A lineholder can waive these limits. § 5-B-2-b-(3) § 5-B-2-b-(4) § 5-B-2-b-(6)

Do you get paid for extending your duty?

Yes, when your agreement is needed. If the extension or waiver projected at takeoff is 1 to 30 minutes you get 2.5 hours of Add Pay; more than 30 minutes, five hours. § 5-F-1-h-(2) § 5-F-1-h-(2)-(b) § 5-F-1-h-(2)-(c)

“unaugmented Duty Period limits shall be at least thirty (30) minutes more restrictive than the flight duty limits established by FAR 117, and shall not exceed thirteen (13) hours, unless waived by the SSC”
