Methodology
Every answer on this site rests on the contract text itself.
The clause, verbatim
Each answer quotes the contract language it relies on. The quote is matched word for word against the text of the published agreement before the page goes live. If a quote does not match, the page is not published.
Plain English, with a label
The explanation is written in plain English and carries one of four labels:
- Clear — the contract answers the question directly.
- Depends — the answer turns on a condition the contract names.
- Ask your union rep — the text leaves room for interpretation.
- Not found — we could not find the answer in the contract. These questions do not get their own page.
Dated
Every page shows the contract version, its effective date, and the date we last checked the page against the text.
Money is calculated, not typed
Pay figures come from the contract’s pay tables and are calculated by code. Nobody types a dollar amount into a page.
Corrections
Every page has a “Report an error” link. A reported answer is reviewed and, if wrong, corrected or withdrawn. Corrections are listed in the corrections log.
