Lineholder minimum days off, United pilots
Short answer
At least 12 days off in a full bid period. When your line is built in the monthly bid, you also get a day off at base in every seven days unless you opt out.
What the contract says
“When a Lineholder is available for a full Bid Period, his schedule shall contain a minimum of twelve (12) days off.”
“After Monthly Schedule Preferencing, if no Pilots are on Involuntary Furlough, a Lineholder may reduce his minimum number of days off provided in Section 5-E-4-a or 5-E-4-b, as applicable, by up to two (2).”
What if I’m not available all month?
Vacation or other absences in the bid reduce the minimum on a prorated table in the contract. § 5-E-4-b
Can I give up days off?
After the monthly bid, and only while no pilot is on involuntary furlough, you can reduce your minimum days off by up to two. § 5-E-4-d
Can I opt out of the one-in-seven rule?
Yes. The one day off at base in each seven-day period applies between trips, reserve and short training, and a lineholder may opt out of it. § 5-E-4-c
