Duty extension pay for United pilots

United Pilot Agreement 2023Effective Last checked Clear

Short answer

Yes, when your agreement is required: 2.5 hours of Add Pay if the projected extension at takeoff is 1–30 minutes, and five hours if it is more than 30 minutes.

What the contract says

“Two and one-half (2.5) hours if the projected FAR extension or contractual waiver required at time of actual take-off is between one (1) and thirty (30) minutes”

Section 5-F-1-h-(2)-(b) · opens the contract at this clause

“Five (5) hours if the projected FAR extension or contractual waiver required at time of actual take-off is more than thirty (30) minutes.”

Section 5-F-1-h-(2)-(c) · opens the contract at this clause

When is it measured?

At the actual takeoff. If no extension or waiver is projected then, there is no Add Pay. With more than one takeoff in the duty period, each takeoff is checked on its own. § 5-F-1-h-(2)-(a) § 5-F-1-h-(3)

How will I know I’m getting it?

The company sends you an electronic message (ACARS, CCS or email) with the Add Pay amount within 72 hours after the duty period ends. § 5-F-1-h-(2)-(d)

Does a soft start or rest reset change it?

No. Extension pay is worked out from the original report time and FAR limit, as if the soft start or rest reset had not happened, so you can earn it even when no extension was actually needed. § 5-F-1-h-(2)-(f) § 5-F-1-h-(2)-(g)
