Reserve minimum pay guarantee for United pilots
Short answer
4:17:39 of pay credit for each reserve work day, plus one hour for each unused short call. Prorated paid absences count 2:20 a day.
What the contract says
“A Reserve’s MPG, rounded to the nearest minute, shall be four hours, seventeen minutes and thirty-nine seconds (4:17:39) for each work day”
“A Reserve’s MPG shall increase by one (1) hour for each unused Short Call assignment.”
What counts as a work day?
Any non-prorated absence or activity and any days tied to a trip carried in from the previous bid period count as work days. Prorated paid absences and activities count 2:20 a day instead, excluding vacation and other Add Pay items. § 3-C-1-b-(1)
When is a short call “used”?
When you are assigned (not picked up) a trip that reports within 18 hours of the assignment, or 12 hours on a VEC line. A short call that ends without that kind of assignment adds an hour to your MPG. § 3-C-1-b-(1)-(a)
How do I turn the guarantee into dollars?
Multiply the guarantee hours by your hourly rate for your seat, fleet and year on the United pilot pay scale.
