Last reserve day release time for United pilots
Short answer
If nothing is assigned by then: long call at 0600 (1400 if the next day has flying or training; 1200 on VEC), short call at 1400 unless told to finish it.
What the contract says
“A Long Call Reserve is released at 0600 (1200 for a VEC Reserve on Long Call) on their last day of reserve, except that they are released at 1400 on their last day of reserve if the next day contains flying or training, provided no assignment has been made by those times.”
“A Short Call Reserve shall be released at 1400 on their last day of reserve, unless by that time they have either received an assignment or been notified to complete their Short Call.”
What if my short call starts at 1400 or later on the last day?
The company must tell you when it assigns that short call that you will be completing it. If it doesn’t, you don’t have to sit it and the short call counts as unused. § 20-K-6-h
Does this apply if I picked up the late short call myself?
No. The 1400 release does not apply to a reserve who aggressively picks up a short call that begins at 1400 or later on the last reserve day. § 20-K-6-h
