Vacation days by years of service, United pilots
Short answer
By completed years of service before the vacation year: 14 days for 1–4 years, 21 for 5–10, 35 for 11–24, 42 for 25+, as adjusted by Section 11-D-1.
What the contract says
“After the provisions of Section 11-A-2 have been complied with, Pilots shall accrue vacation in accordance with the following schedule”
“Time spent on furlough shall be included when calculating completed years of service.”
When do I get to use the days?
Days are earned in one vacation year (May through April bid periods) and taken in the next. § 11-A-3 § 11-A-1
What about my first year?
New hires earn 1 1/6 days for each full bid period of employment during the rest of the vacation year in which they were hired, and take them in their first full vacation year. § 11-A-2
Does a leave of absence reduce it?
A full bid period on leave reduces that year’s accrual by one-twelfth, except as Section 12 provides and for work-related illness or injury. § 11-A-4 Furlough and most leaves that began on or after December 18, 2012 still count toward years of service. § 11-A-3
